Find any 202- phone number in District of Columbia

The 202 area code is an area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). It was created in 1953 when it was split off from the original area code 301, and it covers all of the District of Columbia - Washington D.C. In addition to D.C., the code also serves portions of the adjacent Maryland counties: Montgomery, Charles, and Prince George’s.

The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) is a system used by all of the North American nations including the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean to assign telephone and mobile numbers. The original area code system was created in 1947 and was kept separate from country-wide telephone numbering plans. This allowed subscribers to keep their same seven digit phone numbers when switching phone companies or between different geographical areas within the same country. The NANP system is also used to designate area codes and their respective regions. When a NANP region becomes too populous, other area codes can be added and existing ones can be split - like what happened to the 301 and 202 area codes when they split in 1953.
