Find any 207- phone number in Maine
The 207 Area Code is an area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) that covers the entirety of the U.S. state of Maine. It was split from the original 207 area code in 1999 when the 939 area code was created.
The NANP was created in 1947 as a centralized system for assigning telephone numbers to customers in the United States and Canada. It assigns each area 3-digit codes, known as “area codes”, and ideally splits them to serve each region. The 207 area code was the first assigned to the state of Maine, initially covering the entire state. It was split into two area codes (207 and 939) when it was determined that demand for telephone numbers was too high in Maine and the area needed to be divided to meet the demand. This is known as an area code “split” and it is not uncommon in the NANP.
