Find any 216- phone number in Ohio
The 216 area code is an area code that serves northeastern Ohio, including Cleveland, Akron, and Lorain. It is one of the original area codes established in 1947 as part of the North American Numbering Plan. This plan was created to provide a universal numbering system for telephone services that would conserve resources and simplify long-distance calling.
With the advance of cell phones and technology like VOIP, usage of the 216 area code has increased significantly. To meet the needs of its growing population, the area code underwent a split in 1997. This split caused the creation of the 330 area code, which serves communities to the south and east of Cleveland, including Youngstown, Boardman, and Massilon. Numbers with the 330 area code only started being assigned in 2000. Residents of the 216 area code, however, will continue to use the same area code due to grandparenting rules allowing them to keep their original number even if they move to another area code.
