Find any 253- phone number in Washington

The 253 area code is one of Washington State's original four area codes established in 1947. It originally served the entire Puget Sound region, including the cities of Tacoma, Auburn, Federal Way, Gig Harbor and Tacoma Park. As the Puget Sound region's population grew and phone lines became more in demand, additional area codes were created for the area.

The 253 area code is part of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), a system created by AT&T in 1947 to give each area code a consistent three-digit number. The NANP divides an area of the United States into segments that are grouped geographically. Each geographic area is assigned a three-digit area code, allowing a larger area to share a single prefix. This system has helped to keep phone numbers within an area code consistent and easier to remember. The 253 area code is now assigned to Pierce, Thurston, and Kitsap counties in Washington State.
