Find any 520- phone number in Arizona
The 520 area code is an area code used in the North American Numbering Plan for the state of Arizona. It was assigned as one of the original area codes when the numbering plan went into place in 1947. It covers various parts of the state including the southeastern parts as well as parts of Pima, Santa Cruz, and Yuma counties. As the population in the 520 area code increased, the need to add additional area codes to the state was necessary. In 1995, Arizona added the 928 area code to cover the northern parts of the state.
The North American Numbering Plan divides a specific area into geographic regions and assigns each region a three-digit area code. Each region is further divided into local number blocks that are assigned to specific phone numbers. The system makes it possible to assign and manage telephone numbers on a large scale. When specific regions fill up, they can be divided and additional area codes are added. This is the case for the 520 area code in Arizona which is no longer able to sustain its large population and must eventually split into two area codes.
