Find any 614- phone number in Ohio
The 614 area code is an area code designated by the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area and its surrounding areas. The NANP was developed in 1947 by AT&T for the purposes of streamlining telephone numbering systems across the United States and Canada. It was initially implemented with 84 area codes that were allocated to the entire North American continent.
Since then, the population in the Columbus area has continually grown, necessitating the splitting of the NANP's 614 area code in 1998. The new 313 area code was introduced in overlapping fashion with the 614, so that both were in service while customers adjusted to the new number. As of now, 614 exists as the exclusive area code of most of its users, while many in the central and southeast parts of the state switched over to 313. However, customers in the 614 area code still experience fluctuating rates of capacity.
