Find any 639- phone number in Saskatchewan
The 639 area code is part of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), a system designed to facilitate direct dialing between telephone subscribers. This area code was put into service as part of a province-wide split in May 2009 in order to accommodate Saskatchewan's growing number of cellular and other telecommunications services. The 639 area code covers most of southern Saskatchewan, including the cities of Saskatoon and Regina, however, some areas in central, north, and eastern Saskatchewan are served by other area codes.
The NANP is a plan developed by AT&T to enable central office codes, telephone numbers, and area codes with the same format in different geographical areas. By using the same format of area codes and telephone numbers all across Canada, the United States, and parts of the Caribbean, it is easy for people to remember numbers and make long-distance calls. Within the 639 area code, each three digit prefix can support up to 7,919 telephone numbers. This system is necessary to keep up with the demand for more telephone numbers as the use of cellular phones and other communications technologies grows.
