The 770 area code is allocated to the State of Georgia in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). This area code was officially introduced to the public in 1995, when it was created from portions of the 404, 678, and 470 area codes.
The North American Numbering Plan is administered by the North American Numbering Plan Administration — an independent body established in 1997 by the Federal Communications Commission.
