Find any 781- phone number in Massachusetts
The 781 area code is a telephone numbering system used by the North American Numbering Plan. It is used exclusively in Massachusetts, along with the 339 area code. The 781 area code was created in 1997 as a split from the 617 area code, which had become too crowded to support all of the telephone numbers in the Boston metropolitan area. The 781 area code covers the northern and western suburbs of Boston, as well as Cape Cod and the South Shore regions.
The North American Numbering Plan is an international system of area codes and telephone numbering plans used to quickly and efficiently assign geographic telephone numbers in the United States. It is managed by the North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA), which is a subsidiary of the Federal Communications Commission. NANPA assigns telephone numbers in the United States to regions, counties and cities. It is responsible for assigning, transitioning, and maintaining all telephone numbers in the United States. NANPA ensures that all area codes, as well as the numbers assigned to them, are up to date and follow guidelines set by the International Telecommunication Union.
