Find any 859- phone number in Kentucky
The 859 area code, established in 2000, is an area code located within the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) and is used to assign telephone numbers within the United States and its adjacent territories. The 859 area code, also known as a NANP area code, covers 25 counties in central Kentucky and replaces the original area code of 606, which had served the same area. The 859 area code includes popular cities and towns, such as Lexington and Louisville, and is the thirteenth most populated area code in the NANP.
The North American Numbering Plan area codes are three digit numbers divided into three blocks that dictate the area of service for each number. The first digit of each area code in the NANP refers to the geographical region, with 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 being reserved exclusively for the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. The second and third digits in the area code refer to the metropolitan region where the number is located, or the rate center. Additionally, to provide for the millions of additional phone numbers needed for cell phone and internet providers, the 859 area code is split into two parts: 859 and 547, which was established in 2021.
