Find any 906- phone number in Michigan
The 906 area code is designated for use in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan, U.S.A. The area code is one of the eighty-eight codes operated by the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), which provides telephone services to much of North and South America. The 906 area code was created in 2001 when Michigans' previous covering area code, 616, was split into two separate codes. After being changed over to the NANP’s international calling format, the UP of Michigan was reconfigured into the 906 area code.
The 906 area code is a type of landline/wireline code, meaning it is most often used by home telephones and commercial landlines in the UP of Michigan. The code also extends to a handful of towns and regions along the Lake Michigan shoreline of the Lower Peninsula. Because of this, phone lines of the same area code may reach multiple states depending on the line’s geographic origin. Due to this possibility, international long distance calls may incur higher costs when dialed across boundary lines, even though they remain technically within the same area code.
