Find any 908- phone number in New Jersey
The 908 area code is one of five area codes in the state of New Jersey. It is part of the North American Numbering Plan, which is a system of numbering telephone networks in different regions of North America. The 908 area code covers most of Union County and portions of Somerset, Warren, and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey.
The North American Numbering Plan was created in 1947 and divides telephone networks into 86 geographic regions, known as Numbering Plan Areas (NPAs). Each NPA is assigned a specific three-digit area code. Area codes are assigned based on population density in the region and existing telephone infrastructure in an effort to maximize customer convenience. This means that new area codes are frequently created as populations grow. The 908 area code was created in 2001 as a result of population growth in the region and was split from area code 732 which previously covered the same area.
