Find any 912- phone number in Georgia
The 912 area code is a North American Numbering Plan (NANP) code area covering the state of Georgia. It was created in 1954 in a split from the original area code, 404. Georgia was initially one of the few states in the country to have its own state-wide area code, and was one of the original 86 area codes established in 1947. Today the 912 area code stretches from Augusta, GA to Savannah, GA, covering most of the southeastern portion of the state.
NANP is a numbering plan that organizes telephone numbers in a uniform way across the United States and Canada, allowing a more efficient system of assigning phone numbers and providing easier routing of calls. It assigns each state an area code, three-digit central office code, and four-digit subscriber number, with many states having multiple area codes. As populations and phone needs continued to grow, more area codes were added to meet the demand, thus why the original 404 area code was split into two parts, 404 and 912.
