Find any 916- phone number in California
The 916 area code is the telephone area code for part of Northern California that was split from the 415 area code in the mid-90s to accommodate increased numbering demands. It serves El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, and Yolo counties and the cities of Davis, Elk Grove, Folsom, Galt, Rancho Cordova, and West Sacramento. The 916 area code is part of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). The NANP is an integrated public telecommunications numbering system of the U.S. and Canada, and it divides the geographical area of both countries into fixed-length Numbering Plan Areas (NPAs) with the use of area codes. Originally, only one area code (the original) was used by the states, but population growth and technological advances required the use of additional area codes and the system that is currently in place. The most common type of area code is the NXX. This is a 3-digit code which represents a central office switch. Additionally, within the NXX, there are exchanges representing the first 3 digits of a customer’s telephone number.
