Find any 919- phone number in North Carolina
The 919 area code is a North American telephone dialing code that services the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill metropolitan area. The area code is located in the Eastern time zone and operates under the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). It was created in October 1991 and replaced the 919/252 split that was in place at the time. This split was necessary because of the rapid growth of the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area.
The North American Numbering Plan is part of an agreement between U.S., Canadian and Caribbean countries that allows for the efficient and economical routing of telephone calls. Each area code in the NANP is 3 digit long and can designate geographical, non-geographical, or mobile services. These numbers are also known as PSTN’s or “public switched telephone networks” and are used to facilitate international calls. It is important to note that the NANP does not operate as its own entity, rather it is a system of regulations created by the individual countries that participate in it.
