Find any 931- phone number in Tennessee

The 931 area code is an area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). It covers a large swath of middle and western Tennessee and is one of the state's original area codes, having been put in use in 1954. Before that, the region was served by the 423 area. It is an overlay area code, meaning that it covers the same geographic area as the 615 area code, and so phone numbers with either code are placed in the same rate center.

Area codes are part of the NANP, a system established in the 1940s that assigns a unique 3-digit area code to each geographic region in North America. This was done in order to manage capacity issues associated with the vast number of telephone numbers needed in the booming telephone industry. While area codes have traditionally been determined by the existence of local land lines, the prevalence of cell phone use has required the maintenance of more area codes in recent years.
