The 975 area code is an area code used in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). It was created in a split from the 417 area code, which was serving the area of southwest Missouri, in 2018. The split was necessary to alleviate the growing demand for new telephone numbers in the 417 area code.

The 975 area code is part of the Numbering Plan Area system, whereby each area code throughout the US, Canada, and twelve Caribbean countries is assigned a three-digit number. This system was created in 1947 and is administered by the North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA).
