Find any 985- phone number in Louisiana

The 985 area code is a North American Numbering Plan (NANP) telephone area code that covers the southeastern portion of Louisiana, including most of Tangipahoa and St. Tammany Parishes and a few small areas in the neighboring Parishes. This area code was officially put into service on May 28, 2001. The 985 area code was formed when the 504 area code was split in an effort to reduce the amount of assigned phone numbers within the 504 area code.

The North American Numbering Plan is a telephone numbering plan that is used in the countries of the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and some other colonies of those countries. This system divides territories into a geographic numbering plan area, or NPA. These NPAs are then assigned an area code, in this case, the 985 area code, to denote the geographical area. The NANP area codes are also labeled with a unique three-digit number that cannot be used more than once. Once an area code is designated to a certain regional area it cannot be changed unless the population of that area increases significantly.
